This expecting mom is pushing during her first vaginal childbirth. I remember my first time, my baby played peak-a-boo too. As an experienced childbearing woman I can understand and relate to the frustration this peak-a-boo stage is. Since I have given birth enough now to know exactly how to push I still find myself playing the peak-a-boo pushing game. At the time I know this is going to end and it burns and hurts but allowing my body to adjust and slowly stretch is the key to my success. I have a hands off rule when I’m pushing. I like to reach down and feel or will ask for pressure when I feel the urge. My body is known to slow labor and take a break. OUCH! I follow the urge and squish my legs shut sometimes it just feels better to let the baby go back in than force it out or have fingers poking around. It’s my body and I know I will give the world a baby when I’m ready to. After all I can push. I can push better than your fingers can poke!
I find it encouraging to have the IP or my husband get excited to greet the baby and notice a head or hair (or a hand in one case!). Generally this is more rewarding than say my midwife feeling or stretching. Just me but I like the head to stretch me even if it takes 100 in and out passes to do it.
